Uttarakhand Association for Positive People Living with HIV/AIDS

Founded in 2010, the organization has grown to become a vital support system for the PLHIV community in the state. Its mission is to ensure holistic well-being by addressing not just health needs, but also social, emotional, legal, and economic challenges faced by individuals living with HIV. Through a robust network of volunteers and staff, UKNP+ has worked with over 3,200 individuals, fostering peer support systems, providing emergency aid such as nutritional and educational support, and advocating for inclusive access to public services.

Founded by a group of HIV positive people, representing diverse identities, ensures that the work remains grounded in lived experience. Their interventions place a strong focus on the needs and rights of women and children, and they work closely with one of the most marginalized and underserved groups within the HIV community, including sex workers, people who inject drugs, transgenders, truckers and migrants. The organization actively engages with various stakeholders, including government bodies, legal authorities, and public health institutions, to drive systemic change and uphold the rights of community members.

Project with MHI

In collaboration with MHI, UKNP+ aims to deepen its psychosocial support efforts in Dehradun and Haridwar by appointing two peer counsellors to conduct regular field visits and provide mental health and psychosocial counselling. These services will extend beyond medical adherence, offering support on career planning, family dynamics, stigma management, and navigating social entitlements. The program will also focus on building awareness among key stakeholders, community leaders, health facility staff, and volunteers to address issues of stigma and discrimination. Through this approach, they aim to enhance the overall quality of life and dignity of all genders in Uttarakhand.
