Seven Colors Welfare Society
The organisation works with the Musahar, Bhuiyan, Dom, Nat, and Muslim communities, some of the most marginalised communities in the region. Their services include organizing monthly mental health camps, where clients receive psychiatric consultations, low-cost medications, and psychosocial counselling. Home visits and follow-up care are provided to ensure medication adherence and counselling to the clients and their caregivers.
They train local women as community mental health workers, mobilize ASHA workers, build awareness in the community and educate families on caregiving. Beyond mental health care, Seven Colors works to address social and economic barriers by helping families access government entitlements such as disability pensions, food security, NREGA, etc. They have also established referral pathways with Law Foundation for legal aid and are also exploring livelihood opportunities for women.
Through this intersectoral approach, Seven Colors aims to create a sustainable environment of care.
Project with MHI
With MHI’s support, Seven Colors Welfare Society is implementing a community-based mental health initiative in rural Paliganj, Bihar, with a focused engagement in Mahadalit Tolas, particularly among the Musahar communities. The organization plans to train and engage women workers from the communities to identify early signs of mental distress, provide basic counselling and facilitate referrals when needed. In addition, local volunteers will be trained to support data collection, assist in documentation, and help connect individuals to relevant government entitlements. By integrating mental health care with rights-based advocacy and community mobilization, Seven Colors is working to address the structural determinants of mental well-being.
