North East Research and Social Work Networking

To pursue their vision of a society "free from poverty, injustice, violence & prejudice", NERSWN has worked on health, education, women and youth empowerment and livelihood to ensure rights and development of marginalised communities in the compromised terrain post-conflict. NERSWN had also actively advocated for the implementation of the District Mental Health Programme in the region, and their efforts bore fruit in 2018 and have enabled increased accessibility to mental health services. They also run a school, Suluk-Gwjwn Vidyalaya, for displaced conflict-affected Adivasi children in a remote village in Jhawarbil.

Work with MHI

NERSWN is pushing systemic change in mental health and wellbeing understanding, acceptance and practices in the region. MHI is supporting them in their work to further improve and smoothen out access to mental health services by holding mental health camps, and providing support to caregivers through meetings. They will also be hosting an annual knowledge exchange between traditional healers and doctors during this project duration to adapt and improve healthcare practices.

Youth are agents of change and NERSWN is working with them to promote psycho-social wellbeing and climate resilience within the communities, by building their capacity to engage in social change communication through folklore. They are also using sports to bring together the communities for recreation and supporting talented young players to further pursue sports.
