Humsafar operates from a feminist perspective to prevent gender-based discrimination and violence. It helps survivors make informed choices within a rights framework to access justice and rebuild their lives and reclaim their rights. Humsafar is based in Lucknow and has support unit in district Sitapur of Uttar Pradesh. 

Apart from crisis response and intervention, Humsafar also works in the bastis as well as schools and colleges in Lucknow. They have Sakhi Samuhs, which are collectives where women come together and support each other. Similarly, they also facilitate youth and queer group meetings where they discuss their specific issues and stressors. 

Work with MHI:

MHI is supporting the institutional development of Humsafar and contributing to program strengthening through support for a counsellor and mental health consultant. With MHI’s support, Humsafar is implementing a project to provide psychosocial support to survivors of violence, build the capacity of Sakhi Samuh leaders on mental health and basic counselling and strengthen the support network within the groups and communities they work with.
