Heteronormativity is the belief there is only one kind of sexuality

The assumption that people can only identify as men or women or straight is incorrect and negative for those who are not heteronormative.

A heteronormative society enforces a strict gender binary and oppresses minorities and queer people. Heteronormativity is deeply ingrained and normalized. A heteronormative society believes in the gender binary, says there are only two gender roles and sex outside marriage and not between heterosexual men and women is negative.

Challenge heteronormativity by reframing your perspective of what is normal, creating safe spaces for the queer community, breaking the myth of its superiority and being an ally of the LGBTQIA+ community.
